Local election candidate in the Faughan ward and Strathfoyle community worker, Paul Hughes said: “The people of Strathfoyle, Maydown and Culmore and beyond owe Zero Waste North West (ZWNW) an enormous thank you for all of their hard work in campaigning against the gasification/incineration plans here that have just recently been scrapped.

“I would encourage everyone in Derry/Londonderry and as many people as possible to come along and show their appreciation and support ZWNW in highlighting a case for a Zero Waste solution here in the North West.”

Mr Hughes argues that recycling saves natural resources, reduces pollution levels and creates more sustainable ‘green’ jobs. He also claims it is a positive way to reverse climate change day by day.

Regarding his candidature in the election he said: “Promoting Zero Waste as the way forward as a viable waste management alternative here in the North West remains a big priority for me.”
