Local groups hit the jackpot with Big Lottery funding

Three local organisations have received a significant funding boost from Big Lottery Fund's Awards for All programme.

The Larne, Carrickfergus and Newtownabbey Branch of Early Years has received a £9,980 grant to help fund training programmes, while Mallusk Community Playgroup has received £10,000 to purchase new equipment and furniture.

South Antrim Community Network received £9,865 for staff to attend local events to promote and improve the group’s work on health awareness issues and talk to men suffering from mental health and physical wellbeing issues.

The Early Years training will focus on promoting positive attitudes and respect for differences across communities.

Mallusk Community Playgroup will use its grant for equipment to help increase children’s development and skills. Part of the money will also go towards the cost of setting up a “quiet area”.

South Antrim Community Network will use part of its funding award to organise a Health and Wellbeing Conference.

Joanne McDowell, Big Lottery Fund NI Director, said: “The Big Lottery Fund’s NI Awards for All programme funds health, education, environment and community projects that help people bring about positive change in their lives, improve health and wellbeing, develop skills and create safer communities.
