Local history talk series 'The Desire to Worship'

THIS Wednesday (3 November), local historian S Alex Blair continues his popular local history talk's series which looks at aspects of the lives of the people in North Antrim down the centuries.

From earliest times people have felt the need to worship and this month’s talk, “The Desire to Worship”, will show how this desire has shaped the lives of the people of North Antrim through the generations. There are evidences in our countryside of the druidic worship of the Celts and of the early days of Christianity. Mr Blair’s talk will then proceed to look at the development of the denominations as we know them today and he will deal with the many churches established in our area.

However we know that often religion brings out not just the best but the worst in people and the talk will deal with the many disputes which have brought division and schism in the churches. It will be a fascinating look at a topic which has achieved great moments of inspiration, brought comfort to generations and has given meaning and purpose to the lives of many over the centuries.
