Local homes getting Firmus natural gas

MORE than 60 Housing Executive homes in the town have been fitted with Firmus natural gas.

The Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE) and Firmus Energy are working hard to convert even more homes in the area to natural gas during 2010 and have successfully connected over 360 across Northern Ireland to date.

Through the development of its natural gas network in Lurgan and throughout nine other towns across Northern Ireland, Firmus Energy has enabled NIHE to further deliver on its current energy policy, which is to install natural gas heating into homes, where available.

In the last two years alone, more than 1,500 Housing Executive homes outside the greater Belfast area have had natural gas, using Firmus Energy’s network, installed.

Brendan McCaul, project manager for NIHE’s Heat Replacement Scheme in Lurgan, said: “We’re delighted to bring natural gas to more than 60 homes in the Mourneview area of Lurgan. The Housing Executive is committed to improving energy efficiency in both social and private sector housing and over the years has consistently replaced old heating systems in favour of cleaner, more efficient ones.

“We have continued to deliver on this commitment, connecting a significant number of homes across Northern Ireland to natural gas. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Firmus Energy as they continue to develop their natural gas network through Lurgan and the rest of the province.”
