Local man appointed to safefood’s advisory body

Larne man, Gary McFarlane has been appointed to safefood’s advisory committee.

Mr McFarlane, who is the director for the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) in Northern Ireland, joins 12 other high calibre experts on the committee, providing a balance of expertise across the key disciplines involved in food safety, healthy eating, consumer behaviours, and food and health communications. Appointed by the North/South Ministerial Council, the Advisory Committee advises safefood’s chief executive, Martin Higgins.

In his role with the CIEH, Mr McFarlane is involved in contributing towards environmental and public health policy development through advocacy, research and analysis, working with governments and the wider public sector, universities, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and the private sector.
