Local nominations sought for the first Stroke Awards

DO you know someone from the Lisburn area directly affected by stroke? Whether they are a stroke survivor, carer, volunteer, fundraiser, family member, friend or someone in a professional role who has made a difference, why not let them know how remarkable they are by nominating them for a Northern Ireland Stroke Award.

The Stroke Association Northern Ireland Director, Tom Richardson explained: “Every day through our work in Northern Ireland we witness people displaying immense courage and determination as they strive to overcome the effects of stroke. We therefore wanted to offer people the opportunity to acknowledge those individuals who have been affected by or work with stroke. Selected nominees will also go forward to represent Northern Ireland at the Association’s ‘Life After Stroke Awards’ which takes place in London in June 2012.”

Nominations are required for eight categories: Youth Courage Award (up to age 16); Adult Courage Award (working age); Adult Courage Award (age 65+); Carer of the Year (sponsored by the Conway Group); Stroke Association Award for Volunteering; Fundraising Award; Art in Stroke Award and the Award for Professional Excellence.

The awards, which are supported by Boehringer Ingelheim, are open to all individuals affected by or associated with stroke throughout Northern Ireland and will take place on Thursday March 8, 2012 at a star studded event in the Culloden Hotel, Holywood.

Tom added: “The closing date for nominations is Wednesday December 21 and we really need as many people as possible to take time to nominate individuals who they feel deserve a category award. Nominating is easy. Simply visit www.stroke.org.uk/niawards, email us at [email protected] or call 028 9050 8020.”
