Local pair to join Midnight Walk

Sometimes actions speak louder than words, and a local pair are hoping that their actions will benefit others when they take part in a charity event later this month.

Elaine Hughes and Lauren McKeown will be taking part in the 2014 Midnight Walk in aid of Northern Ireland Hospice, next Friday, May 30.

The walking route will boast some of Belfast’s best known landmarks at dusk, while raising vital funds to support our local Hospice care for local people living with terminal illness.

After seeing a post about the event on Facebook, Elaine talked her pal Lauren into taking part and already the girls have been fundraising.

Elaine has a personal reason for wanting to help the Hospice.

Her uncle passed away a few years ago, and she feels that taking part in the event will be a chance for her to give something back to the charity on behalf of her family.

“We’re hoping to make a day of it,” explained Elaine. “We’re going to Belfast earlier and we are going to stay that night.

“We’re really looking forward to it. The charity does great work throughout Northern Ireland and it will be good to give something back.”

The event steps off from Custom House Square in Belfast at 10pm and promises to be hopping with live music from U105 and Zumba dancing classes courtesy of the Virgin Active fitness crew who plan on getting the night into shape.

Hot drinks and complimentary treats provided by Starbucks will ensure walkers are warmed up and ready for the five mile stroll across the city.

Participants are encouraged to get decked out in their Friday night finery and spot prizes are up for grabs for those best dressed in purple. The event is open to everyone aged thirteen and over, and all party animals in the form of pet pooches are particularly welcome!
