Local people honoured in Queen’s Birthday Honours

This year in the Londonderry district a total of four people were awarded MBEs in the Queen’s Birthday Honours.

Ann Marie Blanking, the Key Stage 3 co-ordinator at St Mary’s College received hers for services to education and the community; Elizabeth McNerlin, received hers for services to employment and the community in the north west; Hugh Edward John Montgomery DL, Secretary and representative in Northern Ireland for The Honourable The Irish Society, received his for services to the community in Londonderry, while David Charles Bullen Reeves, received his MBE in his capacity as an air traffic controller at City of Derry Airport, for services to aviation and the community of Londonderry.

Only one person with connections to Londonderry received an OBE, or Officer of the Order of the British Empire this year, and that was businessman Dr Howard James Hastings, managing director of the Hastings Hotels Group, for his services to tourism and hospitality.

British Empire Medals have been bestowed on three people.

Charles Victor Adrian Anderson receives his for is services to music in the local community of Londonderry.

Prominent community worker Debbie Caulfield also received a BEM. The manager of Eglinton Community Hall, Ms Caulfield received her ‘gong’ for services to the community in Londonderry.

Mary Jane Hall, a founder member of the Limavady branch of the British Heart Foundation, received her Queen’s Birthday Honour for her services to the community of the Londonderry District.
