Local Samaritans issue warning over false collection boxes

SOME homes in the local Ballymena area have been offered collection boxes to raise funds for Ballymena Samaritans.

Ballymena branch have been notified (by a volunteer) that someone has been contacting homes in the Ballykeel estate in the town asking people to collect for Samaritans by saving their pennies in a box.

A spokesperson said: “Please note that Ballymena Samaritans are not offering collection boxes to individual homes in the area.

“Although we are doing a lot of fund-raising through a variety of planned events in the local area of Ballymena, Ballyclare, Antrim, Larne, The Glens, Magherafelt, Portglenone, Templepatrick and the surrounding rural communities, the issuing of collection boxes is not part of our current fund-raising plans.

“If you are offered a collection box please contact the PSNI on 0845 600 8000.”
