Local schools gain green flag awards

Flying the Green Flag signifies that environmental awareness and action are an intrinsic part of the life and ethos of the school.

The successful schools were: Drumgor Primary, Craigavon; Drumnamoe Nursery, Lurgan; St Francis Primary, Lurgan; St Mary’s, Derrytrasna; Drumcree College, Portadown; Millington Primary, Portadown and Moyallon Primary, Portadown

Recognising the achievement, Lord Mayor of Armagh, Banbridge and Craigavon Councillor Darryn Causby commented: “Congratulations to the seven schools in the Craigavon, Lurgan and Portadown areas which have been awarded the Green Flag.

“This is a fantastic achievement and I hope this will encourage other schools to go for the award too!”

Schools are audited and go through a process of inspection bronze silver level before reaching the top level of Green Flag.

The Eco-Schools programme provides an ideal way for fostering environmental awareness in the entire school in a way that links to many curriculum subjects.

The primary aim regarding the Eco-Schools scheme is to combine learning and action for the improvement of the environmental performance of Eco-Schools.

Eco-Schools aims to make environmental awareness and action an intrinsic part of the life and ethos of a school. This should include the students, teachers, non-teaching staff, parents and the wider community.
