Local schools mark jubilee with commemorative art project

Under the guidance of well-known artist Diane McCormick, children from as young as primary three produced drawings representing what the Queen means to them.

The range of artwork produced was extraordinary, with sceptres, castles, crowns, hats, handbags and in particular corgis featuring regularly! Each of the drawings was then transferred on to a china mug to create a totally personal and unique souvenir for each of the children involved.

The Jubilee mugs were on exhibition at the Burnavon from 1-9 June, during which time many family members and friends of the young artists called to admire the work.

The project was delivered as part of Cookstown District Council’s Arts and Culture Development programme.

Thanks are passed to the schools who took part so enthusiastically in this project, namely Coagh, Cookstown, Ballytrea, Stewartstown, Orritor, Phoenix, Queen Elizabeth II, Moneymore and Donaghey and of course special thanks to Diane for leading the project and creating these great keepsakes which will be treasured for years to come.
