Local SDLP candidates attend agriculture conference

SDLP candidates running for the new Causeway Coast and Glens super council attended the party’s annual agriculture conference in Omagh last Thursday at which the party’s position on CAP reform was declared.

West Tyrone MLA Joe Byrne, who is the vice chair of the Assembly’s agriculture committee, announced the SDLP have come down in favour of a single zone region for CAP Pillar 1, and a four year transition period to achieve a single flat rate payment across Northern Ireland.

Roisin Loftus running in the Bann DEA, Donal Cunningham, running in the Glens DEA, and Angela Mulholland, running in the Ballymoney DEA; Donal Cunningham (Glens DEA) and Margaret Anne McKillop (Glens DEA) were among the SDLP’s candidates who attended the conference where special guest speaker was Irish Agriculture Minister Simon Coveney.

The SDLP’s EU candidate Alex Attwood also spoke at the conference, about the role Europe plays in the day to day lives of farmers.
