Local students learn the tricks of the trade in business

STUDENTS from all over the North West region will gather at Foyleside Shopping Centre to sell products they have developed themselves in the Young Enterprise Northern Ireland Company and Team Programmes, funded by the Department of Education and supported by Royal Mail.

The trade fair is the next step in the Company of the Year Competition where the best company will represent Northern Ireland in the Young Enterprise UK finals in London.

This year, approximately 90,000 students aged 5 to 19 will participate in a Young Enterprise Northern Ireland programme geared to their age group.

Barbara Roulston, Head of External Relations for Royal Mail, who support the Team Programme, commented, “Helping people connect is at the heart of what Royal Mail does. Connections are vital to any young entrepreneur, so we are delighted to be supporting Young Enterprise because it enables young people to develop a wide range of business skills and create better prospects for their future careers.”

The goods and services on sale will include crafts, cards and hand-made products.

The trade fair is scheduled as follows: Foyleside Shopping Centre, Friday, February 5 from 10am – 1pm

“Young Enterprise is thrilled that so many students are participating in this year’s Trade Fairs,” says Deborah Lamberton, Development Manager at Young Enterprise Northern Ireland. “It gives them a chance to build their confidence and learn skills such as marketing and sales which will be invaluable to them in the world of work. In today’s economic climate, the employment market is even more competitive, and the skills that these young people learn now will help them safeguard their future careers, hopefully as tomorrow’s business leaders.”
