Local talent takes to the stage in Les Miserables

A NEWTOWNABBEY teenager has been selected to play the lead character of Cosette in this summer's professional production of Les Miserables at the new Theatre at The Mill.

Regarded as one of the most popular musicals of all time, Les Miserables is the sweeping musical adaptation of a novel by Victor Hugo and this new adaptation which runs from Tuesday August 10 to Saturday, August 14, is directed by Peter Corry and Wilson Sheilds and choreographed by Fleur Mellor.

The smash hit musical showcases the cream of Northern Ireland's top young performers who have been taking part in the theatre's Summer Youth Group.

And local teenager Karen Thompson was picked out of the hundreds that auditioned to star in the show.

The 19-year-old from Jordanstown has just finished her Upper 6th year at Victoria College in Belfast where she studied music for A Level. She also participated in the CCEA Score Concert in the Waterfront Hall having been one of the top ten performers in Northern Ireland for AS music practical in singing.
