Local trio take part in Race for Life

THREE local women who pounded the roads for charity recently have thanked all those who supported them.

Siobhan Lyttle, Fiona McGowan and Mary McGowan took part in the Race for Life 5k at the University of Ulster in Coleraine in aid of Cancer Research on Sunday 12 June.

The trio donned pink outfits for the event which attracted scores of fundraisers from across the north coast.

Glarryford woman Siobhan - who runs Blooms florists in Ballymoney - thanked all those who supported the women.

“It went very well,” she said.

“It was a really nice day and everyone was taking part for a great cause.

“Almost every family - including my own - has been affected by cancer at some stage so it is good to try and help with the funding into research.

“We would like to thank everyone who supported us including a number of local businesses.”

Race for Life was started in 1994 with an event at Battersea Park in London, with 680 women taking part.

Since then, 4.7m participants have raised more than £327m to fund Cancer Research UK’s vital work across the country.

Last year, 5,000 women in Belfast raised around £350,000 for Cancer Research.
