Located on Kingsgate Street, Oxfam Coleraine has been part of the local community for around 30 years and Meta has been volunteering there since 1989.

Meta said: “I really enjoy volunteering at the Oxfam shop in Coleraine. Every day is different and it’s rewarding too.

“The funds raised in the shop help Oxfam’s work worldwide, such as long-term development projects, rapid response in emergencies, and campaigning for lasting change. For example, that means getting vital aid like food and water to people cut off by the conflict in South Sudan or helping women farmers in Rwanda escape extreme poverty through agricultural entrepreneurship.”

Meta said: “We all have an attic, press, wardrobe or shed at home that is full-to-bursting with items we no longer need or want. I’m encouraging people to box up those things and donate to Oxfam Coleraine. It takes just a minute to bag an unwanted top or jumper, but it could change a life forever!

“Not everyone knows just how big an impact donating to Oxfam makes! For example, when you donate a top and it’s sold for £6, that could purify around 2,000 litres of water, making it safe to drink for a family from South Sudan who are forced to live in a makeshift camp.

“Donating to Oxfam really changes things and is an easy way to give back that even helps you too by freeing up space for new things!”

Shop Manager Ken Cousins said: “We’re so grateful to people like Meta and the community of Coleraine for their continued support over the years.

“We are always in need of donations so that we can continue to raise vital funds for our work, from our emergency response in places like South Sudan and Syria to our long-term development projects and campaigning which changes the practices that put people in poverty in the first place.

“We’re currently appealing for donations of clothes, accessories, books, homewares, electrical items, CDs, DVDs, linen, jewellery and any other items of good quality.”
