Local walkers join Causeway Trek

ENTHUSIASTIC walkers from Lisburn joined local medical charity NI Chest Heart and Stroke (NICHS) at the charity’s annual Causeway Trek and family fun walk which is held every year at the historic Giant’s Causeway.

The trek, which is in its sixth year, raises vital funds for the charity’s 60 support groups to help sufferers of chest, heart and stroke illnesses, which kill 20 people a day in Northern Ireland.

This year the trek, which was supported by Flahavan’s, saw over 400 walkers receive a bowl of porridge to put an extra spring in their step before they set off on the 11 mile route, as well as a goody bag for each person at the finish line.

Roisin Hughes, Events Co-ordinator for NI Chest Heart and Stroke said it was a great success. “NI Chest Heart and Stroke is spending £350,000 this year on high quality research in local hospitals and universities. We also provide a network of support groups across Northern Ireland for people affected by chest, heart and stroke illnesses” she said.
