Local woman bids for post

A LONDONDERRY woman will next year bid to become Vice-President of an international business organisation boasting as former lights such world leaders as Al Gore, Bill Clinton, Kofi Annan, and Taro Aso.

Lesley Young, originally from Curryfree, is current National President of the Junior Chamber International (JCI) in the UK, with proud parents John and Ruth recently making the trip across the Irish Sea on the occasion of her inauguration.

Speaking at a JCI European Conference in Aarhus, Denmark, during the summer Ms Young announced her candidacy for the Vice-Presidency of the organisation.

She commented: "JCI means so much to me. I've had unforgettable experiences, met some of the warmest and most generous of spirit people I will ever have the pleasure of knowing and also had the honour to be part of something that isn;t just about what's in this for me, but what can we do together to make this world a better place, and all this with smiles on our faces.

"And it's because of this, it would be the greatest privilege for me to take my commitment to the next level and stand as candidate for vice president in 2011.”

The local woman told delegates: “Secure bases are those people, goals, or things to which we bond in a special way. JCI is my secure base and I would be honoured to have the opportunity to - if elected - that in some small way I can contribute back to the secure base I believe JCI is for everyone in this room.”

JCI is a global network for young professionals and entrepreneurs in their 20s and 30s looking for a social and educational network.
