Locals braced for another snow-storm

Temperatures are due to plummet on Wednesday morning to just above freezing and with 20 mph winds also forecast, it’s going to feel around six degrees colder.

The MET office has issued a yellow warning for snow, beginning at 8am on Wednesday morning and lasting right through to Thursday night.

“Heavy snow” is expected to fall, beginning around 3pm on Wednesday with predictions that “5-10 cm may fall even at some lower levels and more than 15 cm possible over higher ground,” according to the MET office.

Snowfall remains likely throughout Wednesday evening with around a 50% chance of continued precipitation into Thursday.

“Strong, gusty winds will lead to drifting and temporary blizzards over high ground, while icy surfaces and lightning pose additional risks in some areas,” continues a statement on the MET office website.

“An active cold front is expected to push southeast across the UK during Wednesday, introducing an increasingly cold and unstable air mass. Showers will become frequent and heavy, falling primarily as snow and driven well inland by strong to gale force northwesterly winds.

“Commuters and other travelers seem likely to face a variety of winter hazards, especially later on Wednesday and early on Thursday, although it’s likely that snowfall in some areas may be more patchy, particularly towards the east.”
