Locals named in Honours list

University of Ulster academic, Professor Denise McAlister, is to be made a CBE for her services to higher education, and the same honour has been awarded to Carnmoney man David Orr - Corporate Services Director at the Department of Finance and Personnel.

Veteran court reporter Ivan McMichael will be made an MBE for his services to journalism, while the same honour will be bestowed upon Ballyclare man Leslie McAdoo for his relentless charity work with Macmillan Cancer Support.

The long-serving Principal of Ballyclare Secondary School, Uel McCrea, is to be made an OBE in recognition of his services to education, and Jordanstown man Roy Millar, former manager of the Northern Ireland Under 21 team, gets an MBE for his services to youth football.
