Locals urged to secure boilers

DROMORE police are urging residents to secure their heating boilers after a series of thefts from local homes.

On Monday, 7 January, the oil burners were taken from the boilers of six houses in Quillyburn Lane.

Con Alex Swan, Dromore Neighbourhood Policing Team, said, “In many properties boilers are housed apart from the main dwelling. After making enquiries, one way of securing your boiler is to invest in a sturdy metal cage, similar to the casings filling stations use to secure their gas bottles.

“The metal cage can be bolted to the ground and fitted with a locked door, making it much more difficult for thieves to remove any part of the boiler.

“Householders can also make their garden more secure with fencing, locked gates and outside lighting.

“If anyone would like further advice they can contact Dromore NPT on 0845 600 8000.” Police are appealing to anyone who has information in relation to the thefts in Quillyburn Lane to contact them on 0845 600 8000.
