Lockhart supports Tesco food collection

DUP MLA Carla Lockhart visited the Lurgan and Craigavon Tesco store recently as she voiced her support for the Tesco Northern Ireland food collection.

The scheme which runs under the slogan “Every can helps,” is part of an on going effort to encourage Tesco customers to donate canned food to charity.

Tesco first ran the campaign in 2012 and since then have collected over 38 million meals.

The Upper Bann MLA visited the four stores in Portadown, Craigavon, Lurgan, and Banbridge in the constituency recently which was run in conjunction with the TrussellTrust.

With 13 million people in the UK below the poverty line the Trust provide food from banks with the items donated by people. They will give a needy person a minimum three day emergency supply of food.

The he MLA said, “This is a great scheme run by Tesco and they are to be congratulated in running this. Food poverty affects more people in Northern Ireland than we realise.”
