Loft insulation fees waived

BALLYMONEY is only one of eight district councils who ‘waive’ building control fees for the Warm Homes Insulation scheme, the monthly meeting was told.

Environment minister, Alex Attwood, had written to the council informing them of those councils who adopted the ‘free’ approach.

Members were advised that the Council policy presently was to “waive” loft insulation fees in all instances and that this reduced the annual income available to the Council’s Building Control Service by approximately £5,000.

The council decided to note the information provided regarding building control fees for domestic loft insulation work.

It was proposed by Councillor Ian Stevenson, seconded by Councillor John Finlay and agreed to recommend that Council note the information provided regarding building control fees for domestic loft insulation work.

Councillor Finlay said he agreed with “waiving” loft insulation fees as the individuals who availed of the warm homes insulation scheme were the most vulnerable and a charge may result in householders not applying to the scheme.
