London 2012 steering group

During a recent Development Committee meeting, members heard: ‘Council has authorised the Development Committee Chair, The Mayor and the 2012 Representative (Alderman Frank Campbell) to act as a Development Committee 2012 Steering Group to progress its application to LOCOG for the Olympic torch to visit the borough, and the “Communities on the route agreement”, to be submitted before 1st September.

‘Some preliminary work has been done and an update report will be presented.’

An addendum released at last Monday’s Council meeting added: ‘Members reference item 7 on the report I would advise that the steering group met earlier today to receive an interim report on the various planning which we will need to put in place, in the event of our application to LOCOG for the torch run to visit Dervock.

‘It is recommended that Council authorise the Chief Executive to proceed with the application to LOCOG for the Olympic torch to visit the borough and to sign the communities on the route agreement on Council’s behalf.’
