London rappers excited by prospect of playing Londonderry

East London rapper Professor Green says he’s looking forward to seeing the reaction of a Londonderry audience to his set in Ebrington next month.

The artist was amongst the first acts announced for the MTV Crashes event at Ebrington on Friday (September 19).

Professor Green said: “I am just excited to get out on that stage, I love performing, that’s what it’s all about for me, so I’m looking forward to sharing my tracks with this Derry audience and seeing their reaction at MTV Crashes.”

Professor Green’s cross-town fellow citizen Uzoechi Osisioma Emenike, professionally known as MNEK, is also looking forward to playing Londonderry.

“I am looking forward to getting out there and performing alongside Professor Green at MTV Crashes Derry, I think it’s going to be a good one and hopefully we will well and truly crash it,” he said.

The two acts will take to the stage in front of a 10,000 strong crowd in Ebrington Square on September 19.

The first 10,000 tickets for the event sold out in an incredible 40 seconds when they were released earlier in the month.

MTV Crashes Londonderry will be broadcast across MTV’s flagship UK music TV channels, MTV MUSIC and MTV LIVE HD and subsequently across its portfolio of European music channels in October.

The Mayor of Londonderry Brenda Stevenson, said: “This is a huge coup for the city and fantastic news for popular music fans across the city and region who are hugely excited about attending a weekend of fantastic music celebration at Ebrington.

“We are delighted to be working with MTV to announce additional acts in the coming weeks and look forward to hosting another hugely successful legacy event as part of Music City 2014.”

Ilex’s Chief Executive Mel Higgins said: “Ebrington has already proved to be one of the best concert venues in the region and we’re delighted to work with Derry City Council and MTV to deliver another unforgettable event.

“The MTV brand will ensure significant international media coverage for the city and for Ebrington, further enhancing our place as a ’must see’ destination.”

MTV UK audiences will be able to get closer to the MTV Crashes Londonderry action using new social media network Tunepics. MTV successfully launched Tunepics at Plymouth Crashes last month, sharing exclusive content with its users.
