Londonderry benefit fraudsters convicted

Two men were convicted at Londonderry Magistrates Court on Thursday for claiming benefits to which they were not entitled.

David Ashcombe (32) of Violet Street, Londonderry, claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance totalling £3,478 while failing to declare employment.

He was fined £400 and ordered to pay an offenders levy of £15.

Christopher McCann (23) of Swilly Gardens, Londonderry, claimed Jobseeker’s Allowance totalling £1,483 while failing to declare employment.

He was given a two year conditional discharge and ordered to pay court costs of £43.

Both are also required to repay any outstanding money wrongfully obtained to the Department for Communities.
