Londonderry goingdark to save world

Zero Waste North West in association with the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) says several Londonderry landmarks are signed up for Earth Hour and is encouraging citizens to get involved too.

“On Saturday, March 19, we celebrate Earth Hour at 8.30pm. This is a global celebration of our planet that encourages us to consider how we can help stop climate change.

“We want Derry/Londonderry to be on the map for Earth Hour this year. Last year the Guildhall clock was dark for the event. This year as many landmarks as possible will go dark including: Foyleside Shopping Centre, Playhouse Theatre, BT, Tourist information Centre, St Columb’s Cathedral, St Eugene’s Cathedral, University of Ulster, Magee College, Quayside Shopping Centre, Saffron Restaurant, Carlisle Road Presbyterian Church, Gainsborough Bar and more are being added every hour.

“Turning off the lights is a symbolic gesture, which highlights how dependent we are on energy. To be part of this community event: Turn off your uplights outside from 8.30-9.30pm.
