Londonderry PSNI assure Justice Minister over Fountain interface

POLICE in Londonderry have assured Justice Minister David Ford that security in the Fountain will be kept under review saying six cameras have been installed in the area over recent years to help combat sectarian attacks.

The Minister was asked by DUP MLA Trevor Clarke for details on the number of reported sectarian attacks in the vicinity of the Fountain.

He replied: "The PSNI do not hold records of the number of sectarian attacks for the Fountain Estate in the format requested. Police have confirmed that sectarian incidents in the vicinity of the Fountain Estate are initiated by people both within and outside the estate.

"Over the last few years PSNI has installed six CCTV cameras around the Fountain Estate and has worked with various statutory and non statutory bodies to improve gates /fencing and lighting. The police have assured me that security of the area will continue to be kept under review."
