Londonderry show choir needs you!

A LONDONDERRY show choir - inspired by the popular television phenomenon ‘Glee’ - will resume rehearsals at Clooney Hall tonight Wednesday, September 21 after a break of six months.

The New Voices Show Choir is back and looking for new talent so anyone interested should come along and join in time for its brand new programme.

Diane Guthrie, Co-Founder, explained: “We want to appeal to the young and the not-so-young with varied abilities and our new programme is aiming to do just that!

“Existing members will know that our main influence is the hit TV show ‘Glee’ and we will still be including songs from the show, but we also want to expand our programme to include other music including classics from the 60s and 70s up to the present day, from artistes such as the late Amy Winehouse, Take That, Westlife, ELO, Adele, Tina Turner, Foreigner, Fleetwood Mac, and many, many more, including numbers from well-loved musicals.”

There are no auditions to join the choir and you don’t need to read music to become a member. New Voices is introducing a new way of learning to suit everyone and make rehearsals fun and enjoyable.

The only stipulation the choir has is that anyone wishing to join can give their commitment to a rehearsal once a week.

“We’ve also changed our age limit and we are now taking members from the age of 14 years upwards. This doesn’t mean we’ve forgotten our more ‘mature’ members and our music will reflect that!” said Ms Guthrie.

New Voices Show Choir was founded in August 2010. Since starting, it has taken part in a few fundraising events around the city, including some Christmas concerts and as part of ‘100 Voices’ as part of the St Patrick’s Day festival in the Guildhall Square.

There is a membership fee attached to the choir and we have tried to keep this as low as possible to encourage members to join. At present it is £12-15 per month (£3 per week), making it a competitive rate in comparison with other choirs in the city.

Rehearsals start on Wednesday 21 September at 7pm in the new venue of Clooney Hall, Clooney Terrace. Call 07784 530569 for more details.
