Londonderry sick of hearing about thousands of jobs that never appear

PEOPLE in Londonderry are fed up hearing about hundreds of thousands of jobs coming to Northern Ireland which never seem to materialise.

Thus SDLP MLA Colum Eastwood told the Stormont Assembly during a recent debate on the Budget Bill.

He said people in the Foyle constituency will soon begin to hold the Executive to account if they continue to hear about jobs being created which never actually appear in Londonderry.

Mr Eastwood remarked: “In my constituency in Derry, people are fed up with hearing about the jobs that are being created by the Executive. All the time, we are given examples of the hundreds and thousands of jobs that are coming to Northern Ireland, but we do not see them in Derry.”

He added: “People in my constituency will begin to hold the Executive to a higher standard. We know all of the arguments and have made them a number of times.

“As party colleagues have done, I commit to keep working with the Minister and Executive colleagues to ensure that we do our best to make the Budget and the

Programme for Government - when we ever see it - fit for purpose.”
