Londonderry to light up early for Christmas film making venture

CHRISTMAS is coming early to Londonderry! Derry City Council staff are busy erecting Christmas lights in the city centre to facilitate a feature film that is being filmed in the city this week.

The film, with a working title “Limbo” is being made with the assistance of Northern Ireland Screen, the Irish Film Board and BBC Northern Ireland. Set in New Year’s Eve, the movie will feature landmark streets around Londonderry including Shipquay Street and Waterloo Street, which will all be lit up with Christmas Illuminations.

The filming is set to take place over a number of days starting this Friday, March 4. Various locations are being used throughout the city including the Foyle Bridge, which will be closing for a number of nights.

The film is being produced by Brendan J. Byrne of the Secret Life of Words fame while its director is Kieron J. Walsh (When Brendan Met Trudy).

Welcoming the film crew to the city, the Mayor Colum Eastwood said Council was more than happy to assist. “We are delighted that this movie is being shot in Derry. Not only is it great profile for the city, but it will create a great buzz in the city centre. The film crew will be staying locally so it will give the local economy a boost. Our staff have been busy putting back up the Christmas illuminations over the past week or so and we are delighted to be part of this feature film,” he commented.
