Long wait is over for Gregor

FORMER Lurgan College student Gregor Aiken’s long wait to see if he can volunteer at next year’s Olympic Games is over. He has just received an email appointing him as an official London 2012 Games Maker.

The journey for Gregor began last October as he submitted his application just minutes before the deadline of October 27, 2010 Gregor hoped that he would get the opportunity to be part of the greatest show on earth.

With over 240,000 applications lodged to volunteer Gregor knew it would not be easy to secure one of the 70,000 places. In March this year Gregor went to an interview which was held at Queen’s University, Belfast where he outlined why he should be given the opportunity.

Gregor, currently in his first year studying for a Degree in Journalism at the University of the West of Scotland outside Glasgow has been appointed to the ‘Press Operations’ Team at the Greenwich venue which is hosting the Olympic Gymnastics, Basketball and Trampoline events.

Before taking up his volunteer position Gregor will be required to undergo ‘Role specific’ and ‘Venue’ Training.

Speaking to the ‘MAIL’ Gregor said: “I am delighted to have been appointed as a London 2012 Games Maker. It could not be better as I am interested in sports and to top it all working alongside sports journalists and TV crews from across the world will help me with my chosen career.”
