Looking back... Extra space for tenants

Cllr Jim Allister asked the Housing Executive to remove defunct gas heating equipment from homes in Rathcoole in April 1986.

The local representative claimed that if the equipment was removed from flats in Coolshannagh House, the tenants would have extra space in their kitchens.

The Democratic Unionist Party councillor wrote to the Housing Executive’s regional director, Mr John Bryan, asking that the equipment be removed with the planned installation of Economy 7 heating in the flats. He said: “This would have the beneficial consequence for the tenants of enlarging the size of their cramped kitchens by giving an extra few square feet of floor and cupboard space.”
