Looking back... NI call-up for Burns

Ronnie Burns from Ballyclare spoke to the Times in April 2001 about making his international debut for Northern Ireland Under 18s.

He was joined by Comrades team mate, Kieran Kane for the tie in Wales. Ronnie said: “We were both in from the start. I played at right midfield while Kieran was directly behind me at right back so it was good to have a Ballyclare club-mate so close at hand. Wales scored the only goal of the game, but I thought that we all gave a good account of ourselves. I was particularly pleased to gain my first intetrnational cap. I had hoped to make my debut against England three weeks ago and was disapointed when the game had to be postponed due to the Foot and Mouth crisis.”
