Looking back... Rubbish relocated

Tenants of Rathmullan Drive accused the Housing Executive of dumping rubbish on their doorstep in May 1988.

Residents claimed a lorry filled with rubber tyres and old suites unloaded on the green opposite The Diamond. According to the tenants, the lorry returned later, picked up the waste and took it to the opposite side of the green, dumping it outside Rathmullan Drive.

An Executive spokeswoman said: “We’re not dumping rubbish and can’t stress this enough. People are already building up rubbish for bonfire material in built-up areas. What we’re doing is trying to relocate this material away from built-up areas where it’s a danger to people’s homes to a designated open space.
