Looking to future with Community Cohesion

AT the July meeting of Council, held last Tuesday, Councillors unanimously adopted the new Community Cohesion Strategy for the Coleraine Borough area.

The Community Cohesion strategy is about people living side by side respectfully and emphasises the important role that all people regardless of background or belief, have in ensuring the vitality, prosperity, attractiveness, inclusiveness and richness of the Borough of Coleraine.

Council has been leading a process, innovative in Northern Ireland, in the formation of the community cohesion strategy for the area, which has been supported by the Office of the First and Deputy First Minister, other public agencies and key voluntary and community organisations operating within the Borough.

Whilst Council has taken the lead, other agencies such as the PSNI, Northern Ireland Housing Executive, Youth Service and the Department for Social Development have been involved throughout the development of the strategy and it is envisaged that it will complement their existing work.
