Lorry driver forced another vehicle off the road, court told

Richard Wylie (44), Tirowen Drive, Lisburn, was fined £250 for driving without due care and attention on July 17 last year.

He was also given three penalty points and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard the accident happened on the Derrytrasna Road, Lurgan, where the injured party was travelling towards Lurgan.

The lorry driven by the defendant came towards him. It ran him off the road as it was travelling in the middle of the road.

A solicitor representing Wylie said he already had three points on his licence.

He explained it was a fairly narrow road and branches were hitting his wing mirrors. The solicitor added that his client accepted he had gone over the white line but would say that the other vehicle lost control on stones.

He said that about an hour after the accident his client phoned the police and admitted the offence.
