Lorry loads of support for charity

McCallister Haulage is a family run business and operates throughout NI, ROI and UK specialising in Road haulage, contractors, with warehousing and shipping facilities.

Operator Jonathan McCallister said that he felt that he had to do something to help the charity after he spoke to a lady encouraging him to make a monthly donation to the CLIC Sargent.

Jonathan said: “I have two small children who are my world and I don’t know what I would do if anything was to happen to them.

“The lady in B&Q Newry told me about the work of CLIC Sargent Northern Ireland.

“I really did not know about the impact of Childhood cancer had on families and the distances familes in Northern Ireland have to travel to get to the Royal Hospital or City Hospital.”

Fiona McCann, Fundraising Manager for CLIC Sargent said: “We are so grateful of McCallister Transport to support CLIC Sargent and put our logos on their lorries.

“It is such a great opportunity for advertising especially when they transport all over the UK.”

Jonathan and his wife Fiona had the chance to visit the CLIC Sargent’s newly opened ‘Home from Home’, Amy’s House, within walking distance from the City Hospital, Belfast, for young people aged 16-24.

A ‘Home from Home’ offers free accommodation for families and patients to stay when cancer treatment is required at the City Hospital.

CLIC Sargent also has a ‘Home from Home’ opposite the Royal Hospital called Paul’s House, for families’ of children aged 0–16.

Families in Northern Ireland make an average round trip of 95 miles up to five times a week to access the cancer treatment needs. The ‘Home’s from Home’ can make a huge difference to these families.

Every week two children and young people in Northern Ireland are diagnosed with cancer. CLIC Sargent is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people and their families.

They are there from diagnosis onwards and aim to help the whole family deal with the impact of cancer and its treatment, life after treatment and, in some cases, bereavement.

CLIC Sargent needs your support to help them cope with cancer and to get the most out of life.
