Lots on sale at Cathedral auction

YOUR search could be over when around 150 lots go under the hammer at Dromore Cathedral Auction on Saturday April 17.

Such was the variety, quality and novelty of some lots offered for sale at last year’s event, that the organisers anticipate further surprises when they open their doors to receive donations from parishioners and supporters on the afternoon of Friday April 16.

Bargain Hunt, Cash in the Attic, and Flog it, can rarely boast a more unusual item than the seven feet tall metal robot, donated for last year’s auction. It was built by a gentleman in Aberdeen, and featured in the famous Pathe Newsreels shown in cinemas right across the UK in the 1960’s. How it got to Dromore is another story.

However the Cathedral’s Auction has also proved to provide an opportunity to pick up more useful items of furniture, garden equipment, and the odd mountain bike, or set of golf clubs. Details of the entries are still to be confirmed but the organisers are confident that whether you are looking for something practical or decorative, from pictures to antiques, you will most certainly be able to pick up a bargain.

Unusual items already entered include a 65-year-old German Schuco clockwork model racing car, identical to what you see offered from time to time on eBay, and a small collection of Staffordshire Toby jugs, all in pristine condition just looking for a new home. You might also find an armchair or a TV cabinet, said one of the organisers.

“One thing’s for sure. Everything will be sold on the day as virtually every item is offered without reserve, so someone is bound to bag a bargain,” he said.

Admission is free, and a catalogue/bidding number costs only 2. The doors of the Cathedral hall will open for viewing at 9am on Saturday April 17, with the first lots going under the hammer at 10.30 am. There is plenty of free car parking and refreshments are available while you wait for the auctioneer to reach your selected lots. Call 028 9269 9167 for further information.
