A LARNE community group is to share in a grants windfall from the Big Lottery Fund's Awards For All programme.

The programme has awarded 9,370 to Larne Community Care Centre as part of a grants roll-out of 611,560 to 75 groups across Northern Ireland.

The centre, which is based in Antiville, will use the grant to run a lunch club, a range of activities and practical information for older people in the local community.

The club will provide healthy, nutritious meals and the activities will include quizzes, beetle drives, music and dance sessions and indoor bowls. There will also be information talks on issues such as mental health and home safety, and topics such as local history and reminiscence, and older people with be given practical advice on benefit support and home heating grants.

Manager Linda McFall said: “Many older people don’t have access to transport so they need something that is based in the area where they live.

“This project is going to improve the health and well-being of everyone involved by giving them the chance to get out of the house, tackling loneliness.”
