Lottery hands out £16,000to two local groups

LISBURN Rugby Club and Lanaway Rural Development Cultural Society are to share around £16,000 of Lottery funding.

The Rugby Club plan to use their allocation of £7,693 to check options for an effective heating and lighting system at their venue. The money will also be used to replace doors and carry out draught proofing. An energy audit will also be carried out to find out where they are wasting energy and identify the improvements they may need to make in the future.

Lanaway Rural Development and Cultural Society are to receive £9,739 which will be used to improve the energy efficiency of their community venue by installing A rated PVC windows.

They will also carry out an energy audit and will also install A rated PVC windows.

The local awards are just two out of 62 across Northern Ireland that have been awarded grants totalling over £621,268 from the Energy Efficient Venues programme.

Frank Hewitt, the Big Lottery Funds NI Chair said: “The Energy Efficient Venues programme supports community organisations to carry out energy efficiency improvements to their venues that help them make savings during this difficult period of recession, and have a positive effect on the environment.

“The programme is open for applications, but organisations should be aware that it closes at 12 noon on Friday, June 1 2012.”
