Lotto cash boost for Cloughmills group

A Cloughmills community organisation will be able to carry out energy saving improvements to its Orange Hall thanks to a grant from the Big Lottery Fund.

Cloughmills LOL 715 has been awarded a grant of £6,610 from the Big Lottery Fund’s energy efficient venues programme to carry out a range of improvements to Rosedermot Orange Hall so they can cut down their heating and energy costs.

The improvements will include putting in new windows and doors and a new heating system and buying energy efficient white goods for their kitchen including a microwave, cooker and fridge.

Member Mark Alexander explained that the money the improvements save the organisation will go back into the upkeep of the hall and running activities and events they offer the local community.

“Rosedermot Orange Hall was built in 1890 and has served the local community as a place for regular meetings, BBQ’s and for band practise for the local accordion band,” he said.

“In the past the hall has had cosmetic renovations, but no work to this extent has been carried out on the hall before.

“The improvements will mean the hall will be a lot warmer and more comfortable for local people who use it and it will be a lot more cost effective.

“This means a lot to the local community and with the work being done it means that the hall could be open to the local community more for small functions and other activities the local community may want to run.”

Frank Hewitt the Big Lottery Fund’s NI Chair, said: “The Energy Efficient Venues programme supports community organisations to carry out energy efficiency improvements to their venues that help them make savings during this difficult period of recession, and have a positive effect on the environment.

“Grants awarded from the programme will help groups like Cloughmills LOL 715 save money during the recession by cutting down on their energy costs, while also benefiting the environment.”
