‘Loud bang’ was grenade attack on police claim dissidents

DISSIDENT republican group Óglaigh na hÉireann has told a journalist that a loud bang heard on the outskirts of Lisburn on Monday was a grenade attack on police.

UTV reported the terror faction have told security journalist Brian Rowan that a loud bang heard in Barnfield Road at 2am on Monday morning was a device thrown at the PSNI.

People in the area reported hearing a loud bang and on Monday afternoon police issued an appeal for information.

The attack came less than a week after a grenade was thrown at police in the Whin Park area of Twinbrook.

The following day, ONH claimed “more attacks are to follow”.

Police say they are continuing to investigate the reports of a loud bang and although extensive searches have been carried out in the area, nothing suspicious has been found.

A PSNI spokesperson said they were advising people in the area to “remain vigilant and do not approach or touch anything that looks out of place”.
