It is understood the London bound British Airways flight left from George Best Belfast City Airport on Tuesday night before a loud bang was heard on board.

The plane had to be diverted to Belfast International airport.

The pilot is understood to have reported engine trouble.

The aircraft, containing 108 passengers, made the emergency landing safely.

Lough Neagh Rescue crews from Kinnego, Ardboe and Antrim were called out by the Coastguard at around 8.30pm.

The charity’s new first responder vehicle also made its first outing in reaction to the emergency.

A spokesperson for Belfast International Airport has since said ambulance, police and fire crews also attended but didn’t have to take any action as the flight landed safely.
