The events, it is hoped, will make a splash in the run up to the charity’s 25 year anniversary, and raise funds to help the charity in their mission to save lives on the lough.

The “Boat Rally” and “BBQ of the year” are being held at the Battery Bar in Moortown on Saturday night [August 2] at 8pm.

Tickets, which are available from LNR members and also the Battery Bar, cost £7 and a range of local produce such as eels, trout and pollen will be on offer as well as the usual BBQ fayre.

The night’s music will be provided by Barney & Soulman.

Sunday’s [August 3] open day, which takes place between noon and 4pm, welcomes a mini petting farm, bouncy castles, a magic show and climbing wall to Battery Harbour.

Kids can take part in football and camogie, have their faces painted, take home a balloon animal or join in at the Creation Station.

An all day DJ will provide the background music for some stiff competition in the sack race and tug-o-war.

There will also be a prize for the best dressed teddy.
