Lough project scoops £120K

LOUGH Neagh Partnership has secured a funding package of £119,950 to develop the Lough Neagh and its Waterways Destination.

The funding will help deliver a special project starting this month to promote the lake as a major tourist attraction.

Lough Neagh Partnership successfully submitted a tender to deliver a variety of innovative strands including creating a unique brand for the lough and its waterways, developing a map of the lough and a boat user guide. There will also be an audit of all Lough Neagh visitor attractions, facilities, activities, accommodation, pubs, restaurants, marinas, facilities, Wi-Fi etc.

The project aims to develop a marketing plan and create around 20 businesses.

Lough Neagh Partnership has planned two consultation events to give Lough Neagh stakeholders the opportunity to feed into the following three projects one on May 21 (3pm)at Ballyronan Marina Centre and the second on May 22 (8pm) at the Gate Inn, Aghalee

The Lough Neagh Partnership is a non-profit company made up of representatives of bodies interested in the development and protection of Lough Neagh. The Lough Neagh Partnership based in Ballyronan, continues to market and promote the Lough & Its Waterways as a tourism destination and this year will co-ordinate the Lough Neagh Fest.

Lough Neagh Partnership is funded by all the councils around the shores of the Lough, and receives funding assistance from DCAL and NIEA.

The partnership is in the process of working up a future integrated development programme linking funds from DARD, DCAL, NITB and Heritage Lottery.
