Loughgiel Early Years Pre-School win Cash for Clobber

Loughgiel Early Years Pre-School has won the small school category of TIDY Northern Ireland and Cookstown Textile Recyclers Lucrative ‘Cash for Clobber’ Competition.

The hugely successful ‘Cash for Clobber’ Competition encourages Eco-Schools to recycle unwanted clothes, shoes, handbags and household textiles in return for cash per kilo and the chance to win large cash prizes for the school. The scheme helps hundreds of schools across the province to raise much needed funds for their schools while educating our young people about the importance of diverting waste from landfill.

Loughgiel Early Years Pre-School won the small school category collecting an outstanding 63.75kgs per pupil and received £1,000.

Catherine Sands, Early Years Coordinator, Loughgiel Early Years Pre-School said: “Loughgiel Community Early Years is delighted to be recipients of this year’s cash for clobber £1000 prize. Participation in this programme helps us teach the children about care of their environment, recycling and giving to others. This prize will enable us to purchase play resources for the early years centre to enable and enhance our early years learning through play.”

The Eco-Schools Programme is the world’s largest environmental education programme with the aim to make environmental awareness and action an intrinsic part of school life. Eco-Schools, sponsored by Airtricity, is a free to enter programme.
