Loughmacrory on Lesser Spotted Ulster on Friday night

Joe Mahon visits Loughmacrory in County Tyrone on the next Lesser Spotted Ulster this Friday 12 September at 8pm on UTV to participate in some fly-fishing during his visit to the once tiny hamlet settlement.

Loughmacrory is known for its long history of handball and even has its own world class handball alley, which was built in the 1960s with a whole lot of community effort and a little divine intervention as Joe discovers.

On the strength of its sporting prowess and its beautiful lakeside location, Loughmacrory is about to become one of the major sporting venues in the country, not only for football and handball but also for triathlon and angling competitions.

Joe also learns about the history of the lake and the people who have resided on its shores for thousands of years. Loughmacrory is just one of 32 lakes in the area, however it is remains the only lake in which the shores are still inhabited.

The lake makes for pleasant recreation as Joe experiences when he spends some time with the local Angling Club. He learns how to make flies using the hair of a very rare breed and spends some leisurely time on the lake to do a spot of fly-fishing.
