Lucky Cookstown motorist escapes serious injury as tree falls on car

A female motorist made a lucky escape this afternoon when a tree collapsed onto her car as she drove along the Orritor Road.

It is understood the large tree crushed the bonnet and front windscreen of her car, after being felled by today’s high winds.

An eyewitness said the tree had completely blocked the road to traffic both ways, after landing right across the road and on top of the car.

One man who lived near by was able to help cut up the tree and remove it, freeing up both the car and traffic.

A police spokesperson said: “Just after 2.15pm on Monday 1 February, police received a report of tree falling on a car on the Orritor Road, Cookstown.

“The windscreen was smashed. It is not believed that anyone was injured in the incident.”
