‘Lucky no-one killed’ after man shot in presence of child and girlfriend

THE PSNI say it’s lucky no-one was killed after gunmen shot a young man in Strabane in the presence of his girlfriend and young daughter on Tuesday, April 3.

Area Commander Chief Inspector Andy Lemon said: “No right thinking individual can condone someone taking the law into their own hands irrespective of what the perceived motive here was.

“Nothing justifies shooting a young man in his home whilst his girlfriend and young daughter are present and I would condemn such violence. It is very fortunate that no-one was fatally injured during this incident.”

Detectives are appealing for information following the shooting incident in the Carlton Drive, Ballycolman area of Strabane.

Shortly before 10.30pm, it was reported that a number of males entered a house in the Carlton Drive area and assaulted and shot a 26 year old man in the leg.

He was taken to hospital for treatment. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

Chief Inspector Andy Lemon continued: “Attacks such as this do not move us forward as a community, they only hold us back. What we need now is information from the public that can assist us in our investigation.”
